The Blenheim Business Assocation – Creating a Central Hub

The Blenheim Business Association has a shared vision of creating a central business district which beats as the heart of the region. Blenheim’s town centre should be a hub for Marlborough’s thriving industries, events and recreational activities, showcasing our finest retail, dining and cultural experiences. The Blenheim Business Association is committed to inspiring continued business growth and development within the town centre, ensuring its place as the thriving hub of Marlborough.

My support of the Blenheim Business Association comes from both having a business and owning property in the CBD, with a genuine interest in the rejuvenation of our town centre. In my professional life I am a Director and Owner of a local Accounting Practice. I offer a broad range of skills in both finance and governance. As an association it is important that we are characteristic of the diverse range of occupants within the catchment that we represent. The re-establishment of the association will formulate a strategic plan that gives voice to our community for not only new initiatives but ongoing development. It’s an exciting opportunity and one I look forward to being a part of.

Mark successfully took over the family Harcourts business in 2003 and today runs an award winning office in the heart of Marlborough, Kaikoura and Nelson. He has a dedicated team of salespeople, property managers and administrators who themselves are all top performers in the industry. Mark’s background prior to this included administration, finance and management having spent 13 years working at the Marlborough District Council. Today his real estate business enjoys a fantastic reputation and his focus in this role is to help the community create a CBD that we can be proud of.

I grew up in Silverstream, Upper Hutt, and embarked on an extended OE as a young adult; starting in Ireland and England, before ending up in South Africa, where I met my wife Kirsty and spent seven years. My background in marketing and promotions with a focus on events and exhibitions. Pounamu Tourism Group was started in Blenheim as a family business to allow my wife and I to spend more time in New Zealand. We decided to return here to raise our children and started The Marlborough Flyer followed by The Wine Station Tourism (and destination marketing) is a sector I am passionate about. I believe in the future of New Zealand as a premium destination, with abundant opportunities for development. Tourism in the Marlborough region is in an exciting area with wonderful growth prospects. I feel privileged to be part of it.

I’ve always believed the best results are achieved together and I have used this collaborative approach throughout my career; with passion, good humour and dedication to achieving results, nurturing relationships and in the pursuit of excellence in customer service. Having worked and lived in several regions across New Zealand, my background includes 20yrs in travel & tourism; designing and operating my own businesses; and leadership within the public service and banking sectors. I offer a broad range of skills in sales management, customer experience, project management, process & strategy and coaching & empowering our people and I am very proud to be helping to enhance the health & well-being of our Marlborough Community as Programme & Events Manager for Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000. Moving from Auckland to my husband’s hometown sunny Marlborough in 2016, we haven’t looked back; embracing the benefits that come with being part of a small but forward-thinking community and I’m proud to be part of the BBA, focused on economic growth for our business district and the ongoing development of a vibrant community we can all be proud of.</p> <p>

Originally from the UK, I have spent the past 15 years in Blenheim, originally attracted to NZ as a whole because of the wine industry – then settling nicely in Marlborough as the wine capital of NZ. I was a media specialist for NZME in Blenheim, before moving to Marlborough Media in 2019. I can offer a variety of advertising and marketing strategies to any business, event or person interested in radio, digital and/or print locally, nationally, and internationally.</p> <p>I am delighted to be part of the BBA and look forward to being part of a team of like-minded people that have plans and ambitions to grow and develop Blenheim’s CBD.

I have recently moved back to Blenheim after several years studying and working in Wellington. In my past experience working in government I was involved in regional economic development, including funding, strategic planning and governance. Since returning to Blenheim I have been working as a solicitor at Gascoigne Wicks. I have a strong desire for Marlborough to thrive as a community, and understand that a vibrant CBD is essential to this.

Since moving to Blenheim 6 years ago I have been a stay at home Mum to my two young children; until 18 months ago when I joined the BBA as its part-time coordinator. I am extremely passionate about seeing Blenheim grow into the vibrant, thriving town that I know we all want it to be. I moved here from Wellington with my family in 2013 as the climate, the landscape and the lifestyle are second to none. I would really love to see Blenheim ‘cash in’ on its natural assets and become a prosperous, lively town for locals to enjoy every day and for visitors to soak up time and time again.
