Getting to know ……
Kay Thomason at Lynfords Furniture Blenheim & Nelson
Tell us about yourself and your business: what does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Lynfords Furniture is a family furniture retail business which began in Blenheim over 20yrs ago. In that time, we have expanded and opened a second store in Nelson. We specialise in selling quality NZ Made & imported furniture as well as offering interior design services to all our customers wanting any support in creating that ideal indoor or outdoor living or working space.
What do you love the most about being in business in Blenheim?
Taking over the business in recent years, I am focused on growing both our Blenheim & Marlborough locations and continuing the legacy of superior customer service that Lynfords in known for. It has been challenging stepping into an ownership role within the business but the enjoyment I get from being able to provide residents of the Marlborough & Nelson areas with great products partnered with a service that is 100% local definitely keeps me motivated.
What is the biggest challenge in running your business?
There has been positive forward growth in Blenheim recently in regard to the development and appeal of the inner retail area combined with promotion of activities and events to bring people in. I hope to see this continue and for the town centre to become an area where both locals and visitors are drawn in to enjoy good atmosphere, food, culture and shopping.
Is there anything you would like to see in the Blenheim CBD that we don’t have already? (for example in terms of amenities/events etc)
It would be great to see the beautiful riverside area of central Blenheim to be used as more of a central hub for restaurants/cafes/bars etc to give people a central gastro area to gravitate towards.
Why did you decide to join the Blenheim Business Association, and what is the most valuable thing we could do for you?
I joined the BBA to become an active part of a community group working towards the positive growth of our towns business industry and to support others with similar views.
What do you enjoy doing when you get some rare time away from the business?
I like to take time away from work and relax by working in the garden at home or by venturing out on a camping or biking adventure. Spending time with my grandchildren is also a favourite activity of mine.
A cheeky question to finish up…….if you could have any one superpower, which would you choose and why?
My superpower of choice would be to be able to generate a $1000 note per month that I could gift to someone in need with the guarantee that it would change their life for the better.
