Getting to know…….. Karen Gibb at Paper Plus Blenheim
Tell us about yourself and your business: what does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Paper Plus Blenheim first opened their doors in Blenheim in 1993. I started working here in 1998 as a sales rep. I then became manager in 2011. We offer Books, Stationery, Gifts, Toys and Lotto.
What do you love the most about being in business in Blenheim?
What I love mostly about being in business in Blenheim is the people. We are well known for our friendliness and our willingness to help anybody. Our locals are amazing people who are dedicated to local businesses.
What is the biggest challenge in running your business?
The biggest challenge for me in business is competition ( keeps you honest and on my toes ) Another big challenge at the moment is the road closure with the earthquakes. Temporary I know, but it still a challenge. Another challenge is to always be thinking of new ideas particularly in this business it is ever changing with the trends.
Is there anything you would like to see in the Blenheim CBD that we don’t have already? (for example in terms of amenities/events etc)
What i would like to see in the CBD which i think is missing is quirkiness where people could come and just sit with a coffee or just to feel the vibrancy. I’m sure we could come up with something which is relevant to our province whether it is Aquaculture or Vineyard related. I would love to have something in the CBD area which identifies us more to what we should be know around the country for. I would also love to have more events in the CBD area.
Why did you decide to join the Blenheim Business Association, and what is the most valuable thing we could do for you?
I decided to be come a member of the BBA because I wanted to be part of a team of like minded people who have the same ambitions for our province. I must say also it is nice to be part of a group who say they are going to do something and actually do it with the intention of improving enhancing and promoting our province.
What do you enjoy doing when you get some rare time away from the business?
What i like to do when relaxing is : Reading ( of course) travelling, gardening Kayaking hiking biking and loads of family activities.
A cheeky question to finish up…….if you could have any one superpower, which would you choose and why?
